Level 3 Advanced Fire Detection Qualifications
The Fire Industry Association delivers four Advanced Fire Detection and Alarm (FD&A) Qualifications that enable professionals to progress into specialist roles in the fire safety industry. Each qualification is regulated by FireQual and recognised by BAFE as meeting the SP203-1 Version 8 Level 3 competency requirements.
Pathways available
Learners can choose one of four specialisms:
• Design Theory and Regulatory Requirements
• Installation Theory and Regulatory Requirements
• Maintenance Theory and Regulatory Requirements
• Commissioning Theory and Regulatory Requirements
All pathways are aligned with BS 5839-1 and developed with input from industry experts to reflect real-world roles.
Qualification structure
Each Advanced qualification consists of four modules:
• Fundamentals to Advanced (bridge course that includes the Foundation exam)
• Health & Safety at Work (or recognised evidence of competence)
• Environmental (or recognised evidence of competence)
• Specialist module in your chosen area (Design, Installation, Maintenance or Commissioning)
All modules must be successfully completed to achieve the FireQual Level 3 Advanced Qualification.
Study order
Delegates begin with the Fundamentals to Advanced course, which bridges from the Fundamentals qualification and includes the Foundation exam. Once this is completed, the remaining modules may be taken in any order before the final specialist module.
Who should take this qualification
This route is designed for experienced FD&A engineers aiming to take on responsibility as lead installers, designers, commissioners, or maintainers. It supports professional progression and meets the BAFE SP203-1 Version 8 requirement for regulated Level 3 qualifications in each role.
