Dry Riser Theory and Practical Training to BS 9990 

Theoretical training and practical experience for the commissioning, servicing & maintenance of dry risers. Based on BS 9990:2015.

This course is ideal for anyone who will be carrying out the commissioning, servicing and maintenance of dry risers installed in buildings. It will also prove useful for anyone likely to answer technical questions about dry risers.

Where and why dry risers are required:

  • The applicable Legislation/standards for dry risers

What the components of a dry riser are:

  • How a riser is assembled
  • Terms and definitions

How a dry riser is maintained:

  • The maintenance actions in BS 9990 and BS 9999
  • The potential risks from maintenance actions
  • Practical training and assessment

Whilst there is no necessary experience required to be allowed to sit the training, any previous experience or shadowing of a competent engineer will be beneficial prior to sitting the course.

As this course includes a practical element with water,  delegates may get wet and/or dirty and must come with a set of tools to participate which should include the following:

  • Safety footwear
  • Hardhat
  • Safety glasses
  • Work clothing (may get wet and/or dirty)
  • Gloves (optional)

Learning outcomes include:

  • The ability to commission, service and maintain dry risers
  • Practical hands-on experience of the process on a dry riser
  • FIA certificate on passing the Theory and Practical Assessment
