Construction Industry: The FIA Urges Review of Gateway Delays
The Fire Industry Association (FIA) highlights a pressing issue impacting high-rise residential construction in its latest briefing. New regulatory requirements under the Building Safety Act 2022 are causing significant delays to project approvals, undermining progress on much-needed housing developments.
While the FIA supports higher safety and quality standards, the current Gateway 2 and 3 processes are overly complex and inefficient, creating a bottleneck that halts construction. Challenges include unclear submission requirements, limited pre-submission consultation, and restricted communication with regulators, resulting in wasted time, increased costs, and stalled projects.
This document offers a detailed analysis of the issues and presents actionable recommendations to streamline approval processes while maintaining safety standards.
